This is for all the ‘Thirteen Reasons Why’ fans, and for those who know quite a bit about it. For those who don’t have any idea, you just need to know that Hannah Baker was the protagonist of the Series by Selena Gomez. She was hit by depression because of the events that took place in her life and she eventually committed suicide.
The title might seem quite insignificant, but I’m trying to convey a very significant point through it. You might be wondering, what can be so significant about Hannah Baker applying nail paint or changing her hairstyle? The answer is, this was her best initiative towards improving her condition and giving another chance to life.
This might still seem unimportant, right? But, truth be told, this was one of the best things she could have done to improve her condition and her confidence. It is a tried and tested method that I have used numerous times and I have been successful in improving my mood and mental state most of the time. Well, Hannah couldn’t really make it still, because her mental illness had become too serious by that time. Moreover, another tragic incident hit her and she gave up.
But, most of us are luckily in a much better state of mind in comparison to the protagonist of 13 Reasons Why. This is why I will highly recommend you to start paying attention to your outer self when you don’t feel mentally right. It is one of the best ways to improve your self-confidence and self-worth (Because that is what gets affected the most whenever we are not in a good mental state).
I agree that internal healing is the most important thing when you face a mental breakdown. But, it has to start somewhere, right? I prefer starting it with getting dressed well, getting a change in your look, or trying something new. A little shopping will also be a great idea to raise your spirits. Generally, when a person is upset, he/she doesn’t really feel like dressing well or paying attention to their outer self. This just adds up to the gloom, trust me. The idea is to cut this habit and start getting dressed well, as well as trying something new. You will instantly feel much better.
Once you are done with getting that little ray of hope which tells you that you can get out of this gloomy mental state, it’s time to start with the internal healing process. The internal healing process requires a deep level of introspection, finding the problem statement, creating possible solutions, and finally selecting one.
